for week commencing 28th April 2008
Paving the Way to May The snow is melting, the grass is growing and outdoor sports are on a roll. The proverbial April showers have certainly brought some May flowers, but the blooming isn't just happening in gardens. New stars are beginning to flourish in the professional leagues, from baseball to hockey to volleyball, all of these rising players are looking to lead their team to a championship title. If you want to take a look at a couple of these individuals, here's a quick peek at what's coming up this week on NASN:
MLB Regular Season continues There's no better way to get reacquainted with Major League Baseball than to watch what could be called the flagship team of America : the New York Yankees. Live at midnight on 29 April, the Bronx Bombers close out a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians, both quality teams who have yet to find their stride this season. Pitcher C.C. Sabathia, who won last season's AL Cy Young Award, has opened up with a distressing 0-3 record and a 13.50 ERA to match. The Yankees have had trouble staying consistent, never winning more than three games in a row. Tune in to see which team will come out on top. After the game, be sure to catch an all-new episode of Baseball Tonight, featuring the latest news and analysis of games around the league.
NHL: Stanley Cup Playoff Semi-finals If you want a sure way to chill out this week, there's only one solution: the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. With two spectacular doubleheaders on 30 April and May 1 starting at midnight, you can see the conference semi-final matches live from the first drop of the puck to the final horn. Half of the teams are gone and half of the remaining ones will disappear much faster than you think. So don't miss a second of the icy action as NASN skates over the pond bringing you the very best live Stanley Cup Playoff coverage.
NCAA Volleyball With professional sports dominating most of the sporting headlines, sometimes it can be nice to take a look at where the pros got their start. NASN does just that this week by bringing some pass-set-spike action to your screen with the NCAA Men's Div. I Volleyball semi-final matches. Starting at 12:30 p.m. on 30 April, fifth-ranked Pepperdine University takes on the lone #1 seed Long Beach State in a pairing that features two traditional powerhouses of men's volleyball. Then, at 9 a.m., witness the other two teams battling for a place in the National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship: #2 BYU and #3 CS Northridge. The championship will be broadcast as-live next week, but there's nothing stopping you from catching two fantastic matches before then!
As America's premiere teams clash in their efforts to be on top, the entertainment only increases for those of us watching. So sit down, relax and enjoy the best North American sports available in the UK. For more great match-ups and games, check our schedule at www.nasn.com.
