MESSAGE FOR US CITIZENS FROM THE US EMBASSY LONDON:
YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO ENROLL IN GLOBAL ENTRY FOR EXPEDITED IMMIGRATION CLEARANCE AT US AIRPORTS
American Flag If you travel regularly to the United States and would like to speed through airport immigration controls upon arrival, the US Embassy is pleased to announce a special opportunity for US citizens in the United Kingdom to enrol in Global Entry. Global Entry is the US Customs and Border Protection travel facilitation programme that expedites clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travellers upon arrival at a US airport. Members of the programme can enter the United States through separate lanes and kiosks at international airports. Membership also includes TSA Pre✓®, which offers expedited security screening when departing from a US airport, so that you don’t need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts and light jackets. A five-year membership for US citizens costs $100.
Ordinarily, enrolment requires an interview that can be completed only when you are within the United States. In early December 2015, however, a Global Entry mobile enrolment team will visit London, allowing you to complete enrolment before your next trip to the United States.
US citizens can apply for Global Entry by clicking here to visit the US Government’s official Global Entry website. There you’ll be asked to provide your passport information, details of your employment, and your last five years of travel and address history. You’ll also need to provide bank card information to pay the membership fee. Once you’ve completed the online application, US Customs and Border Protection will contact you to let you know if you have been tentatively approved, and if so will invite you to schedule an interview to complete the process. More information about Global Entry, including a video message from US Ambassador Matthew Barzun, can be viewed here.
Additional questions about Global Entry can be sent to LondonCBP@state.gov.
SMART TRAVELLER ENROLMENT PROGRAMME (STEP)
The Embassy encourages US citizens living or traveling abroad to also enrol in the Department of State’s Smart Traveller Enrolment Programme (STEP). By enrolling, US citizens make it easier for the US Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency. US citizens without Internet access can enrol by directly contacting the appropriate US Embassy or Consulate.
US citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and Country Specific Information can be found.
Follow us on Twitter and the Bureau of Consular Affairs page on Facebook as well. You can also download our free Smart Traveller iPhone App to have travel information at your fingertips. In addition to information on the Internet, travellers may obtain the latest information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada, or outside the United States and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except US federal holidays).
